Interweave Makes Changes

Posted by: Editors | February 2, 2007

Interweave Press has announced it is changing the name of Lapidary Journal to Jewelry Artist beginning with the June 2007 issue. The monthly publication will also be redesigned and will have a refreshed editorial direction, as well as expanded newsstand distribution to stores like Wal-Mart, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Michaels, A.C. Moore, Jo-Ann’s, and more than 800 independent bead shops.

The magazine will continue to offer answers to technical questions, designs and design advice, jewelry and lapidary projects, tips, guidance on selling jewelry, new product information, event calendars, and more, but will also include new columns, including one on trends, one on gems, a showcase of jewelry designs, and a spotlight on jewelry artists.

Joe Breck, publisher of Interweave’s Bead, Gem & Jewelry Group, says the new name reflects a change in readership over the years, verified by decades of ongoing reader surveys. The most recent survey confirms jewelry making is the most important subject to more than two-thirds of the magazine’s readers.

Interweave also announced it is increasing the frequency of Stringing magazine to a quarterly subscription-based publication beginning with the Spring 2007 issue, on newsstands February 27. Also, Step by Step Wire Jewelry will increase from quarterly to five times a year in 2007, with Spring, Summer Preview, Summer, Fall, and Winter issues. Both will have expanded national distribution in the same stores as Jewelry Artist.
