Knitting for Charity

Posted by: admin | January 18, 2007

The DIY television network is partnering with Warm Up America!, a charitable organization dedicated to creating handmade blankets, clothing, and accessories to help those in need. On Super Bowl Sunday (February 4), needleart enthusiasts are encouraged to knit and crochet 7”x9” sections to be used in creating shawls and blankets for those in need. Warm Up America! volunteers will sew the sections into finished items and distribute them to women’s shelters, nursing homes, and daycare centers across the country. Also on Super Bowl Sunday, DIY will begin airing at 5 p.m. eastern time a 12-episode marathon of its popular series Knitty Gritty. Vickie Howell, host of Knitty Gritty will also participate in a live blog during the marathon.

The DIY/Warm Up America! partnership is a year-long initiative. For more information, including a pattern for the 7”x9” section, visit www.DIYnetwork.com/knit, beginning tomorrow. DIY’s efforts to help keep Americans warmer will be documented in a one-hour special scheduled to air on the network early next year.
